The history of foundation and success
The first records about the establishment of the Center for Reproductive Medicine (CRM) in Bukovyna in Chernivtsi dates back to February 1995. The first steps on the way of its creation were made by Professor Olexandr Mykhailovych Yuzko, who at that time was the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology #1 of Chernivtsi State Medical Institute (hereinafter Bukovinian State Medical Academy (BSMA), now Bukovinian State Medical University).
The Center for Reproductive Medicine was planned at the medical institute on the basis of state financing. Accordingly, in May 1995, an order was issued to establish it at the Chernivtsi Medical Institute on the basis of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology #1.
The primary aim of the Reproductive Medicine Research Center was to elaborate, approbate and provide highly specialized care in the issues of reproductive medicine. The Center was not a legal entity and operated within the mandate given by the medical institute.
In 1996, the CRM settled temporarily at Holovna street 129, on the basis of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology #1. The equipment and training of the employees begins:
- prof. O. Yuzko - Bregenz 1996, Dr. Ciech Institute for Reproduction (Austria) 1996; Tettnang (Germany) 1996
- Ph.D. O. Andriets - Institute of Reproductive Medicine (Kyiv)
- Ph.D. T. Lapteva (now T. A. Yuzko) - Institute of Reproductive Medicine (Kyiv); Bregenz 1999, Dr. Ciech Institute for Reproduction (Austria) 1999; Tettnang (Germany) 1999
- Doctor V. Kaspruk - Institute of Reproductive Medicine (Kiev)
- laboratory Assistant S.Bodnar - Lviv Medical University (Laboratory Case)
In the same year, CRM became a branch of the Institute of Reproductive Medicine (Kyiv) for one year. Director of the Institute F. V. Dakhno obtains the degree of Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology # 1 of Chernivtsi Medical Institute.
In 1997, the CRM received the premises on Hrebinka Street 9 (now P. Celan St.), where the building is completely repaired by their own efforts. Practical work has started: first spermogram, sperm insemination (washed, enriched), mixed sperm insemination (spouse + donor). The first pregnancies were obtained after successful fertilization in the CRM.
In 1997 polyclinic department, embryology and laboratory function in the CRM.
To expand its activities in the field of reproductive medicine, on April 24, 1997 the Collective Health Care Institution “Laboratory for Reproductive Medicine” (CHCI “LRM”) was founded. In 1998 the Reproductive Medicine Laboratory, was licensed by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to conduct medical practice. This was the period of formation of reproductive medicine in Bukovyna.
The Center of Reproductive Medicine and the CHCI “Reproductive Medicine Laboratory” cooperated actively until December 2002. Hundreds of babies were born after artificial fertilization in vitro (IVF). The CRM and the LRM have gained recognition in Ukraine and beyond.
The negative side in the history of the MDC and the LRM is the period from April 1, 2002 till end of December 2002, when they were relocated to the BDMA premises on Heroes of Stalingrad boulevard 11, which did not function. In December 2002, the BSMA unilaterally terminated the Cooperation Agreement and this forced LRM to find another premises.
From February 1, 2003 the LRM Medical Institute continued its work in the rented premises of the Chernivtsi Clinical Hospital of at Chervonarmiiska street 226. This is the time of "maturity" of the team and its business. New reproductive technologies are actively implemented, equipment is renewed. The department of laparo- and hysteroscopy is established.
In March 2009, the LRM Medical Center, which is known in Ukraine and abroad as the Bukovinian Center for Reproductive Medicine, moved to its new building on O. Boyarka street (now Trepka St.) 1A, which is located on the territory of the Regional Clinical Hospital in the center of Chernivtsi near the “Bukovyna” Hotel and the picturesque Shevchenko Park of Culture and Recreation.
In 2010, the “Laboratory for Reproductive Medicine” was re-registered into the “Medical Center for Infertility Treatment”. Today, the medical center is known as "YUZKO MEDICAL CENTER".
There followed an opening of a new outpatient department of the Center and a 7-bed inpatient department, a day hospital, a new operating unit, an ultrasound department. A general practitioner was admitted, a women consultation and pregnancy management was established, urological and surgical surgeries were introduced. Modern computer technologies were introduced into the work of medical center, call center, round-the-clock urgent energy supply is provided by two generators, modern repair was carried out in the rooms with the installation of proper ventilation system in a new embryological unit and cryo-depositories, embryological, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic equipment, ultrasound and other equipment was completely renewed.
